Port Infrastructure Grants

Posted: 8/18/2025

The Maritime Administration (MARAD) has extended the application deadline for its Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) to September 10, 2025.

PIDP provides funding on a competitive basis for projects that improve the safety, efficiency, or reliability of the movement of goods into, out of, around, or within a port.

PIDP grants support efforts by ports and industry stakeholders to improve port and related freight infrastructure to meet the nation’s freight transportation needs and ensure our port infrastructure can meet anticipated growth in freight volumes. The program provides funding to ports in both urban and rural areas for planning and capital projects, and includes a statutory set-aside for small ports to continue to improve and expand their capacity to move freight reliably and efficiently and support local and regional economies.

Eligible Applicants:

  • State & Local Governments
  • Federally Recognized Tribes & Affiliated Groups
  • Private-Sector Applicants
  • U.S. Territories

Eligible Project Activities:

  • Loading & unloading of goods at the port
  • Moving of goods into, out of, around, or within a port
  • Operating improvements at a port
  • Environmental and emissions mitigation measures
  • Infrastructure that supports seafood and seafood-related businesses

Federal cost-share for PIDP is 80%, but the Secretary of Transportation may increase
this for grant projects located in rural areas or small projects at small ports
