UC Berkeley's Safe Transportation Research & Education Center (SafeTREC) has updated and refreshed its toolkit "Implementing the Safe System Approach: Strategies to improve pedestrian & bicyclist safety" with new strategies and easier navigation.
The toolkit provides a starting point for anyone looking to plan a bikeable and walkable community and it lists potential community improvements that can help create a safer community with the Safe System Approach.
The Safe System Approach focuses on saving lives with the understanding that humans make mistakes and bodies are fragile. Attention is focused on reducing fatal/serious injuries when a crash occurs through strategic street design and street infrastructure management, as well as engaging and educating communities on how to use streets safely.
