Posted: 1/6/2026

TRAINING: January 27, 2026 - January 29, 2026 , 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM PT

Lawsuits against road agencies are costly and increasing, but many are preventable. Tort Liability & Risk Management for Local Public Agencies is a free three-part virtual training offered by Ohio LTAP that teaches roadway personnel how to identify legal risks, prevent claims, and protect their agencies from expensive litigation.

What you'll learn: A key objective of this training is to use lessons learned from real tort claims filed against road agencies to develop countermeasures and risk management strategies that enhance traffic safety and reduce crashes. The course reviews key legal concepts relating to the liability of roadway agencies from a risk management standpoint.

Through examples and case studies, you'll identify common types of claims and lawsuits brought against street departments and roadway agencies. The training highlights risk management principles aimed at reducing and preventing crashes and claims, as well as helping agencies defend claims when they occur. You'll also learn practical risk management activities you can implement in your department.
