RSCP 2026: Reading the Roadway

Posted: 1/27/2026

TRAINING: February 17, 2026, 10:00AM - 12:00PM PT

Reading the Roadway teaches you how to identify safety issues through everyday observation and formal evaluation. Presented by the National Center for Rural Road Safety (NCRRS) as part of the Road Safety Champion Program (RSCP), this session provides practical skills that professionals can apply to spot potential hazards during routine activities and improve safety on local roads.

This 2-hour training is the sixth in a 7-part series of online training that covers many of RSCP's career-focused modules. Each 2-hour session is free to attend and completion goes towards your requirements to become RSCP-certified. These courses may be taken out-of-turn and completed any time in the future when available.

RSCP is open to all staff from transportation, public health, and law enforcement agencies who have an interest in roadway safety but are not safety experts.

Training Topics Include:

  • How to "read the road" and incorporate this skill into daily activities
  • Potential safety issues through real-world examples during routine activities
  • How the road safety audit process provides a formal approach to reading the road
