Perpetual Asphalt Pavements

Posted: 3/13/2026

WEBINAR: March 19, 2026, 11:00AM - 12:30PM PT

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) presents Designing for Performance in Perpetual Asphalt Pavements, a webinar introducing key concepts for designing asphalt pavements that minimize structural fatigue and extend service life.

Unlike traditional flexible pavements that fail after a certain traffic load, perpetual pavements are engineered to prevent fatigue cracking and structural rutting, with distresses limited to the surface layer that can be renewed every 18–20 years.

This session also highlights practical applications, including a case study of a perpetual airfield asphalt pavement.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe key concepts required to complete a perpetual pavement design
  • Apply perpetual pavement design principles to highway asphalt projects
  • Outline an agency’s experimental plan for constructing an asphalt pavement

Webinar Agenda & Presenters:

  • Perpetual pavement principles – David Timm, Auburn University
  • Illinois Tollway application – Bill Vavrik, Applied Research Associates
  • Perpetual pavements for airfields – Navneet Garg, Federal Aviation Administration
  • Q&A session moderated by Buzz Powell, Asphalt Pavement Alliance

Register to Attend

This Event is $100.00
