Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional
On June 2nd, FHWA issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Nationally Significant Federal Lands and Tribal Projects (NSFLTP) Program.
This NOFO releases up to $165M of FY 2024 through 2026 funding to provide grants to tribes and federal land management agencies for projects that provide substantial benefits to their communities or parklands.
The NSFLTP program—part of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act—provides funding for the construction, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of nationally significant projects within, adjacent to, or accessing federal and tribal lands. This program provides an opportunity to address significant challenges across the nation for transportation facilities that serve federal and tribal lands.
Per statute, 50% of NSFLTP funds must be used for projects on tribal transportation facilities and 50% for projects on federal lands transportation facilities.
Grant applications must be submitted by July 16, 2026. Learn More
Enacted in December 2015, the FAST Act provided $305B in long-term federal funding to improve America's highways, transit systems, and passenger rail.
It focused on accelerating project environmental reviews, establishing dedicated freight investment programs, and strengthening transportation safety.
"There can be no doubt that the transportation sector is the most critical sector of our economy."
