The Type 3 Highway Bridge Replacement & Rehabilitation Competitive Grant program, known as Bridge Improvements Type 3 (BIT3), provides up to $25M in FY2026 funds for the replacement or rehabilitation of bridges.
Eligible applicants under the BIT3 are those counties owning a Type 3 bridge that crosses a water conveyance structure owned by the Bureau of Reclamation (USBR).

The BIT3 Competitive Grant Program does not require a minimum cost share. The federal share is 100% of funds requested for eligible project scope.

The Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) defines Type 3 bridges as public, non-USBR-owned that cross USBR facilities, typically water conveyances like canals, dams, or pipelines.
These structures are usually owned by local county governments, but USBR tracks their inventory to ensure they don't impact critical federal water delivery.
