Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional
On Tuesday July 21, 2026, California LTAP hosted a free 2-hour Local HSIP Cycle 13 Call for Projects Webinar, which covers the availability of roughly $370M to fund two application categories: Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) and Funding Set-Asides.
Presented by experts from the Caltrans Division of Local Assistance (DLA) and California Division of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA CA), this informative webinar shared a comprehensive overview of California’s Local Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), including the Cycle 13 application process, eligible applicants, BCR, Funding Set-Asides, and other helpful resources to support the success of your HSIP application.
Also presented is how Roundabouts, an HSIP-eligible FHWA Proven Safety Countermeasure, are benefiting San Diegans by lowering pedestrian fatalities at upgraded intersections.
Please visit the Local HSIP Cycle 13 Call-for-Projects Website for full details, and contact your Caltrans District Local Assistance Engineer (DLAE) with any questions.

FHWA's Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) is a core Federal-aid opportunity designed reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries on all public roads, including those maintained locally and on tribal lands.
Each HSIP funding cycle requires a data-driven, strategic approach to improving highway safety on public roads with a focus on performance.
"There can be no doubt that the transportation sector is the most critical sector of our economy."
